Oppression in Eritrea has been widely reported by international organizations and news outlets for many years. The government has been accused of restricting freedom of speech, controlling the media, and imprisoning people without proper trials. One example is the case of Eritrean cartoonist Biniam Solomon, who has recently been released from prison after spending about fifteen years in detention without any formal charge. He was arrested in 2011 in the capital city, Asmara, and was never brought to trial. During that time, he reportedly had no contact with his family and received only limited medical treatment. Human rights groups say many prisoners in Eritrea are held incommunicado, meaning they cannot communicate with the outside world. Reports also describe harsh prison conditions, including poor food, lack of medicine, and physical suffering. Although the government denies these accusations, international organizations such as the United Nations have expressed concern and called for the release of thousands of detainees held without trial in Eritrea.
Pray for the Eritrean regime to be more tolerant of the voice of the dissenters. Pray for the immediate and unconditional release of all the imprisoned victims in Eritrea. Pray for more freedom of peaceful expression and press freedom in the country (The Holy Bible, Psalm 70:5).
Pray for the end of the oppression in Eritrea. Pray for the Eritrean government to uphold international human rights laws and allow all its citizens to exercise their full rights and freedoms in their homeland (The Holy Bible, Proverbs 31:8-9).
