In the February 12 general election in Bangladesh, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) achieved a decisive victory, securing 49.97% of the vote and 209 seats, a significant increase from its 30.81% vote share and 140 seats in 1991. The Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami (Jamaat) also made remarkable progress, winning 31.76% of the vote and 68 seats, compared to 12.13% and 18 seats in 1991. The National Citizen Party (NCP), led by student and youth leaders of the July uprising, secured 3.05% of the vote, ranking third in vote share. It contested as part of the Jamaat-led 11-party alliance. A total of 50 political parties contested the election, with 44 receiving less than 1% of the vote. Additionally, 275 independent candidates secured 5.79% of votes. Though the Election Commission did not release the full popular vote count, estimates suggest BNP and its allies received around 3.73 crore votes, while Jamaat and its alliance partners secured approximately 2.73 crore votes. Out of 12.77 crore registered voters, 59.44% cast their ballots in the February 12 polls.

Abba Father, we pray for unity among the people of Bangladesh. After this election, may peace, understanding, and reconciliation prevail. Help leaders and citizens work together for harmony and national stability. Amen. (The Holy Bible, Proverbs 14:34).

Lord, strengthen the citizens to remain hopeful and active in building their nation. May they continue striving for progress, peace, and development without losing heart. Amen. (The Holy Bible, Galatians 6:9).
