Saudi Arabia arrested 127 government officials for corruption in January 2026, the Oversight and Anti-Corruption Authority, Nazaha, said. The arrests followed 1,543 visits to different government ministries to check for bribery, abuse of authority, or other wrongdoing. A total of 383 officials were investigated during these checks. The arrested employees worked in the Ministries of Interior, Defence, Education, Municipalities and Housing, and Health. Some of those arrested were later released on bail. The number of arrests has increased compared to December 2025, when 116 officials were caught from fewer ministries. Although fewer suspects were checked in January than in December, the number of arrests rose, showing stronger enforcement. The anti-corruption authority continues to monitor government departments closely to prevent misuse of power and ensure accountability. These measures are part of Saudi Arabia’s wider effort to fight corruption, protect public funds, and maintain trust in public institutions. The government said it is committed to taking strict action against anyone involved in corruption.
