Brunei is a small but wealthy country where strict religious law strongly shapes daily life. It is ruled by Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah, who has full power over the government and the law. Brunei follows a national system based on Malay culture, Islam, and loyalty to the monarchy. Over the years, the Sultan has introduced stricter Islamic rules, including the Sharia penal code. These laws control personal behavior and limit freedom of expression. People are careful about what they say because there is no political opposition, and the media is tightly controlled. Public criticism of the government or religion is not allowed. Some punishments written in the law are very harsh, but they are rarely enforced. Even so, the laws create fear and encourage social pressure. Many people follow the rules quietly to avoid trouble. Order and safety are strong, but personal freedom is limited.
In the Mighty Name of our LORD and Savior, Jesus Christ, we command the spiritually closed nation of Brunei to be opened for the Gospel of Christ. Amen (The Holy Bible, Mark 7:34).
Lord Holy Spirit, we pray for Your mighty move among the people of Brunei. LORD, break down all cultural, political, and religious barriers and open the hearts of the Bruneian people to the Gospel, in the Mighty Name of Jesus Christ, Amen (The Holy Bible, Psalm 2:8).
