Vietnam’s ruling Communist Party held its national congress to decide the country’s leadership and direction for the next five years. Nearly 1,600 delegates gathered for the carefully planned event, where key decisions are usually made in advance. At the congress, To Lam was selected to continue as party general secretary, the most powerful position in Vietnam. His reappointment was widely expected and showed strong support from party leaders. The congress ended earlier than planned, which many observers saw as a sign of clear agreement or limited opposition. Unlike many countries, Vietnam does not have public elections for top leaders. Instead, the Communist Party chooses the General Secretary and other top officials internally, and ordinary citizens only vote in limited elections for National Assembly members, mostly approved by the party. For To Lam, the selection gives him five more years to push economic reforms and administrative changes. The congress also highlighted the growing concentration of power in one leader and confirmed continuity in leadership.
Pray for divine guidance in leadership in Vietnam. Pray for the Holy Spirit of GOD to fill their hearts with a desire for justice, peace, and the welfare of the people, not personal gain. Pray for wise counsel to help them improve the country’s economy (The Holy Bible, Isaiah 1:17).
Pray for progress in Vietnam’s anti-corruption reforms. Pray for the authorities to improve political stability and rebuild public trust in the country (The Holy Bible, Zechariah 9:12).
