For over two years, Israeli hostages held by Hamas since October 7, 2023, were a painful and hopeful reminder. In Tel Aviv’s Hostages Square, a digital clock ticked off each passing minute since 251 people were taken hostage. Relatives, survivors, and volunteers gathered there every week, promising to keep the vigil until the last hostage was home. After 843 days, the clock was finally turned off with the return of the body of the last hostage, Ran Gvili, to Israel. Silence fell on the crowd, and then slowly, people began to applaud as they needed time to realize what was happening. For some, it was a moment of relief, but also of great sadness. At least 46 people died while being held hostage, and over 1,200 Israelis lost their lives in the attack. While it was hailed as a major success by leaders, many families felt it took too long and cost too much. The end of the hostage crisis marks the end of a painful chapter, but the grieving, healing, and reflection are just beginning.

Pray for divine protection upon all the people living in Israel. Pray for the LORD’s healing power upon the people affected by the October 7, 2023, attack, both physically and psychologically (The Holy Bible, Psalm 147:3).

Pray for justice to be served for all the innocent civilians caught between the Israel-Hamas war. Pray for divine peace to prevail in the Middle East region (The Holy Bible, Proverbs 21:15).
