Schools in northern Nigeria are gradually reopening after being closed for months owing to the kidnapping of students, which is a sign of hope and fear at the same time. In November of last year, students were abducted in mass from schools, leading states to close schools in a bid to safeguard students. However, schools have recently reopened, having beefed up security, and students have slowly begun attending despite hopes of going back to normal school life. This is despite the government having put measures in place for safety, which have still not been clearly outlined. Parents are still afraid of sending students back to school, fearing more attacks from kidnapper gangs and insurgents. In some states like Niger State, some schools remain closed owing to high risks of attacks. Leaders in these states believe that student safety should be paramount compared to the need for students to go to school.
Pray for the improved security system in Nigeria as the schools are reopening after the shutdown due to the security crisis. Pray for the Spirit of the LORD to lift a standard against the evil-doers in the country (The Holy Bible, Isaiah 59:19).
Pray for the LORD’S intervention in Nigeria to save the school-going children and all the vulnerable people in the nation. Pray for the LORD to break in pieces the oppressors and bring justice to the poor and vulnerable people in the country (The Holy Bible, Psalm 72:4).
