Since 28 December, Iran has witnessed a rapidly spreading wave of protests triggered by a sharp devaluation of its currency and worsening economic hardship. Demonstrations have been verified in more than 50 towns and cities, including traditionally pro-government strongholds such as Qom and Mashhad, signaling deep dissatisfaction even among the state’s usual base of support. Verified footage and reports indicate that security forces, initially restrained, have increasingly used force following public remarks by Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. While authorities claim they will listen to legitimate economic grievances, they have also warned of firm action against protesters. Human rights groups report significant casualties, with dozens killed, making this the most serious unrest since the 2022 Women, Life and Freedom protests.
Abba Father, we ask You to protect innocent lives amid unrest and violence. Comfort families who mourn and shield civilians from harm. Let restraint replace force, and may peace prevail in the streets of Iran. Amen (The Holy Bible, Matthew 5:9).
Lord, bring hope where despair has taken root. Let dialogue replace fear, and reconciliation replace division. May the people of Iran experience dignity, stability, and a future marked by peace. Amen (The Holy Bible, Micah 6:8).
