Bangladesh is set to observe Victory Day, marking 54 years since the nation achieved independence from Pakistani occupation through a nine-month Liberation War in 1971. The historic victory came at the cost of immense sacrifice, with three million lives lost and nearly half a million women subjected to grave atrocities. To honor the martyrs and freedom fighters, the government has organized nationwide commemorative events, beginning with a 31-gun salute. Key observances include wreath-laying at martyrs’ monuments, hoisting of the national flag, cultural and educational programs, victory fairs, band shows, acrobatic displays, and tributes from national leaders, freedom fighters, foreign diplomats, and citizens. Government buildings and Bangladeshi missions abroad will fly the national flag and illuminate key structures in remembrance of the nation’s hard-won freedom.
Abba Father, we thank You for the gift of freedom and the sacrifices made for this nation. May future generations cherish and protect this liberty. Amen (The holy Bible, Galatians 5:1).
Lord, unite the people of Bangladesh in justice, compassion, and peace. Guide the nation to walk in righteousness and harmony. Amen (The Holy Bible, Matthew 5:9).
