A small single‑propeller plane belonging to Samaritan’s Purse was hijacked in South Sudan on December 2. The plane, carrying medical supplies, was traveling from Juba to the northeast of the country to help people in need. Shortly after takeoff, a man named Yasir Mohammed Yusuf threatened the pilot and demanded to fly to Chad. The pilot circled for several hours and then landed the plane in northern South Sudan to refuel. The hijacker was taken into custody by the National Security Service in Wau. On board were the pilot and a Samaritan’s Purse staff member. The hijacker had hidden on the plane until after takeoff and was wearing a vest with an air charter company logo, but the company had no record of him. No one was seriously injured. Police are investigating the incident, but the motive for hijacking the plane and wanting to go to Chad is still unknown. Samaritan’s Purse praised the safe outcome and security forces’ quick action.
Praise GOD that the LORD thwarted the plan of the evil-doers to hijack the medical plane. Pray for divine protection upon all the aid and mission workers in South Sudan (The Holy Bible, Job 5:12).
Pray for peace and protection for all the innocent civilians in South Sudan. Pray for them to have immediate and uninterrupted access to all their basic needs and rights in the country (The Holy Bible, Psalm 33:22).
