The United Nations in Iraq, together with the National Directorate for Women in Iraq and the High Council for Women and Development in the Kurdistan Region, launched the 2025 “16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence” campaign through events in Baghdad and Erbil. UN Deputy Special Representative Ghulam Mohammad Ishaqzai said that while Iraq has taken steps to protect women and girls from online abuse, more efforts are required. He emphasized that as technology grows, all sectors must help ensure women and girls can participate safely in digital spaces. The UN reaffirmed its commitment to working with government bodies, civil society, and communities to raise awareness, strengthen protection systems, and fight digital violence during the campaign.
Abba Father, please place Your hand of protection over every woman and girl in Iraq. Guard them from online harm and from every form of digital violence. Surround them with Your peace and safety. Amen (The Holy Bible, Psalm 121:7).
Lord, comfort and heal those who have been wounded by online abuse. Restore their minds, hearts, and confidence. Let Your love bring renewal where pain has taken root. Amen (The Holy Bible, Psalm 147:3).
