Tensions flared up in Gaza after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ordered strikes following attacks on the country’s forces and partial returns of hostage remains by Hamas. The strikes hit Gaza City, Deir al-Balah, and near Shifa Hospital, while Hamas denied firing at Israeli troops and criticized the attacks as a ceasefire violation. A ceasefire, which kicked off on October 10, has so far held, although there have been minor clashes and earlier flare-ups. The return of bodies of hostages is way slower, with Hamas saying they struggle to locate them amidst the destruction, but Israel claims Hamas delays the process. Egypt has sent teams to help recover bodies. Remains returned included Ofir Tzarfati, who had been kidnapped in October 2023 and whose family has been forced to rebury him multiple times. Returned bodies have further complicated the ceasefire that also covers issues such as the release of Palestinian prisoners, the delivery of aid, and questions of governance in Gaza. There have been some minor violations on both sides, but mediators continue working to keep the truce intact.
Pray for the authorities of Israel and Hamas to uphold the ceasefire agreements. Pray for the end of disputes between the two warring parties. Pray for peace and justice to prevail in the region (The Holy Bible, Psalm 46:9).
Pray for the success of the efforts of the international authorities to end the war between Israel and Hamas. Pray for the LORD’S healing and restoration power upon all the victims of the conflict (The Holy Bible, Psalm 6:2).
