After the fall of Bashar al-Assad, Syrians hoped for peace, but instead, the country fell into more violence. The new leader, Ahmed al-Shara, once a jihadist fighter, promised to protect all people, including minorities like the Druze, Christians, and Alawites. However, his government’s forces carried out a brutal attack in the province of Sweida, killing about 2,000 people, most of them Druze civilians. Witnesses and videos showed soldiers executing unarmed men, forcing people to jump from buildings, and humiliating the elderly. Families were torn apart, and entire neighborhoods were destroyed. The government said it would investigate, but many Syrians have lost faith in these words. The Druze community now wants to break away and govern itself, while other groups like the Kurds are refusing to cooperate with the new regime. The tragedy in Sweida has become a symbol of Syria’s continuing pain, a country still torn apart by hate, fear, and revenge even after the fall of a dictator.

Pray for the new Syrian government to take immediate action to hold the perpetrators behind the brutal attacks in the province of Sweida accountable for the crimes. Pray for justice and peace to be served for the victims. (The Holy Bible, Exodus 23:2).

Pray for political stability in Syria. Pray for the new government to uphold the rights and freedoms of all the citizens without any discrimination. Pray for divine protection upon all the religious and cultural minorities in the country. (The Holy Bible, Psalm 40:17).
