Abdulmajeed Sabra, a well-known human rights lawyer in Yemen, was arrested by Houthi forces on September 25, 2025. They took him from his office in the capital city, Sana’a, because of a social media post where he marked Yemen’s independence day, a day the Houthis do not support. Instead, the Houthis want to celebrate a different date, the day they took control of the city. Since his arrest, his family does not know where he is and cannot contact him. This has raised fears that he may have been forcibly disappeared. Sabra has worked hard to defend people who were detained for peacefully expressing their views. Many human rights groups are now asking the Houthis to release him and others who were arrested for peacefully speaking out. They want the Houthis to respect everyone’s rights to speak freely, gather peacefully, and work without fear.
Pray for the immediate and unconditional release of the human rights lawyer Abdulmajeed Sabra and all others who are detained for peacefully exercising their rights and freedoms in Yemen. Pray for justice to prevail in the country (The Holy Bible, Psalm 37:6).
Pray also for the immediate release of arbitrarily detained UN and civil society staff in Yemen. Pray for divine protection upon right activists, humanitarian workers, and innocent civilians in the country from all evil. (The Holy Bible, Psalm 140:1).
