Heavy rain in Bhutan on October 4–5 caused flash floods, landslides, and bridge damage across many areas, including Haa, Chhukha, Samtse, Paro, Wangdue Phodrang, and Thimphu. The floods destroyed roads, bridges, homes, and cut off several communities from help. In Haa, bridges and roads were washed away. In Chhukha, the Wangchhu River overflowed and damaged tourism and mining areas. In Samtse, three bridges and several homes were lost, leaving many people stranded.
This disaster happened just days after Bhutan and the UNDP started a new plan to build stronger, flood-resistant infrastructure, showing how urgent it is to prepare for climate-related disasters.
Abba Father, we lift up the people of Bhutan who have lost homes, bridges, and livelihoods. Be their refuge and strength in this time of disaster. Provide them safety, comfort, and the help they need to rebuild their lives. Amen (The Holy Bible, Psalm 46:1).
Lord, protect those working to rescue and support flood-affected families. Give them courage, endurance, and wisdom to bring aid safely. May Your hand guide every effort toward healing and restoration. Amen (The Holy Bible, Psalm 121:8).
