Although Bangladesh has made strong progress in human development, a deep social and judicial crisis is threatening these gains the growing violence against girls.

Police data from the first eight months of 2025 shows 3,589 rape cases, with 1,172 involving minors. Civil society reports reveal an 83% rise in child rapes and a 163% jump in attempted rapes within nine months. Disturbingly, one in five victims was six years old or younger.

Activists warn that this surge reflects a culture of impunity and systemic failure to protect children. The ongoing violence and child marriage risk undermining Bangladesh’s progress toward equality, safety, and justice.

Abba Father, we lift up every girl and child who has suffered from violence. Surround them with Your love, restore their hearts, and bring them comfort, healing, and strength to rise again. Amen (The Holy Bible, Psalm 147:3).

Lord, heal Bangladesh from the roots of injustice and fear. Inspire change in hearts and institutions, and raise voices that defend the innocent and stand for Your righteousness. Amen (The Holy Bible, Proverbs 14:34).
