Ethiopia has accused Eritrea of working with a group linked to the Tigray conflict to start a new war. A letter from Ethiopia’s foreign minister to the United Nations claims that Eritrea and a hardline Tigray faction are supporting armed groups in Ethiopia’s Amhara region. These groups, known as Fano militias, are fighting against the Ethiopian government and are said to be trying to take control of towns. Eritrea has not replied to the letter yet, but tensions between the two countries are rising, especially over Ethiopia’s push for access to the Red Sea. Eritrea controls the coast, and Ethiopia, being landlocked, now says that giving up the ports in 1993 was a mistake. The Tigray group denies all claims and says the government is trying to hide its own failures. Eritrea also says Ethiopia’s focus on the Red Sea is strange and harmful. Many fear this tension could lead to a new war, as peace in the region seems to be slipping away again.

Pray for peaceful and friendly relations between Eritrea and Ethiopia. Pray for the authorities of both countries to agree on peace talks to end the conflicts (The Holy Bible, Proverbs 16:7).

Pray for divine protection for the innocent civilians in the Tigray region and the border region between Eritrea and Ethiopia. Pray for peace and justice to prevail in the two countries (The Holy Bible, Psalm 142:5).
