NORTH SUDAN, NORTH AFRICA

In December 2011, the government of North Sudan “informed the United Nations of its commitment to resolve all outstanding issues with the newborn state of South Sudan.” Pray for these words to become reality. Ask the Lord to establish peace between North and South Sudan. Pray for the salvation of President Omar al-Bashir and other leaders. Pray for the Gospel to be proclaimed throughout Sudan. It is estimated that 4 million people were displaced from South Sudan during the civil war with the north. “Since October 2010, three months before the south voted to become independent, more than 360,000 southerners have returned from the north by train, bus and barge.” Pray for those who are coming back to their homeland to have a place to live. Ask the Lord to guide the leaders of this new nation in providing food, clean water, shelter, education, and medicine for those who are returning. Pray for the Lord to give the government and businesses of Japan wisdom in dealing with the health risks of radiation. Human trafficking is on the rise in Thailand. According to the United Nations, “People living in rural areas with low employment, little awareness and poor education are vulnerable to ploys that could leave them as virtual slaves.” Pray for the Lord to supply leaders in Thailand with ideas and strategies for combating human trafficking and also helping the poor find jobs and earn a living. As Eurasianet notes, “His increasing control over every aspect of life in Turkmenistan is starting to become visible.” Although Turkmenistan is rich in natural resources, more than half of the population lives below the poverty line. Pray for Berdymukhamedov’s salvation. Pray for the Gospel to be proclaimed throughout Turkmenistan. Petition the Lord the draw men, women, and children into relationship with Jesus Christ. Pray for an outpouring of the Holy Spirit in this nation. Invite the Kingdom of God to come to Turkmenistan. (The Bible, I Timothy 2:1-4)

DAY TWENTY-TWO

ETHIOPIA, EAST AFRICA

Ethiopian troops took control of a key Somali town in early 2012, driving back members of the al-Shabaab terrorist group. This is expected to help stabilize the Somali government. Pray for the government of Ethiopia to continue its fight against terrorism. Pray for al-Shabaab to be defeated. Ask the Lord to send more workers to Ethiopia to proclaim the Gospel. Pray for Christians in this nation to be bold in sharing Christ. Petition the Lord to pour His Holy Spirit out on Ethiopia and bring forth a mighty revival in which multitudes put their faith in Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. (The Bible, Psalm 1:1)

MYANMAR (BURMA), SOUTHEAST ASIA

Women in Myanmar – some as young as 14-years-old – are being promised jobs in China that will help their families rise from poverty. But if they agree, they are drugged by human traffickers and shipped to China where they are forced to marry farmers. “The trafficking of women and girls for forced marriage is quite a serious problem,” says Save the Children in Myanmar, “and trends over the last couple of years indicate that it is increasing.” Pray for an immediate end to this wicked practice. Pray for the Lord to protect the women of Myanmar. Pray for the salvation of traffickers. Ask Him to give families and parents strategies for earning money that do not involve trafficking. Pray for the Gospel to be proclaimed throughout Myanmar. Ask the Lord for a great harvest of souls. (The Bible, Psalm 17:13)

DAY TWENTY-THREE

CHAD, CENTRAL AFRICA

Although the government of Chad was a signatory that helped establish the International Criminal Court (ICC), they recently refused to arrest Sudanese President Oman al-Bashir during his visit. Al-Bashir is wanted by the ICC for war crimes. Chad is now being referred to the United Nations Security Council. Pray for leaders in Chad to take a strong stand against terrorism and crime. Pray for the Gospel to be made known throughout this nation and all of North and Central Africa. Pray for a great harvest of souls in this usually quiet nation. (The Bible, John 4:35)

ALGERIA, NORTH AFRICA

Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM) claimed responsibility for several kidnappings in North Africa in 2011. However, some believe it was the work of Tuareg rebels retaliating for the coup that brought about the end of the al-Qadhafi government in Libya. The Algerian army has been crossing into Mali in an effort to find and bring to justice those involved. Pray for an end to all terrorism in this region – no matter the source. Ask the Lord to give leaders in Algeria ideas for combating extremists and militants. Pray for Muslims in this nation to have the opportunity to hear and respond to the Gospel. Invite the Kingdom of God to come in power. (The Bible, Romans 10:14)

DAY TWENTY-FOUR

LIBYA, NORTH AFRICA

The interim government in Libya has proposed the election of an assembly to draft a new constitution. This is considered a necessary first step in setting up a democratic government. Pray for the election to be fair. Ask the Lord to raise up leaders of His choosing to lead this nation forward. Pray for this time of transition to be an open door for the Gospel. Petition the Lord to draw Libyans out from the darkness of Islam and into the light of Christ. Pray for a great harvest of souls in this nation. (The Bible, Daniel 2:21)

MALAYSIA, SOUTHEAST ASIA

“Human smuggling, and not corruption, is one of the biggest causes for the illicit outflow of funds from developing countries, including Malaysia,” notes a member of the Malaysian parliament. Pray for all human smuggling and corruption to be exposed and brought to a swift end in this nation. Pray for leaders to govern with integrity and in the fear of the Lord. Ask the Lord to comfort, heal, and bring freedom to the victims of these crimes. Pray for Christians in Malaysia to be strong in the Lord and the power of His might. Pray for the Lord to encourage them and give them boldness in sharing their faith. Invite the Kingdom of God to come in this nation. (The Bible, Ephesians 6:10)

DAY TWENTY-FIVE

OMAN, ARABIAN PENINSULA

According to the United Nations, Oman ranks number one in the world in terms of progress over the past 40 years in the areas of health, education, and income. When protests broke out in the spring of 2011, Sultan Qaboos increased unemployment benefits and raised wages by 40 percent. Pray for the Gospel message to penetrate this prosperity and cause the people of Oman to consider eternity. Ask the Lord to set Omanis free from the lies of Islam. Petition Him to lead them into relationship with Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. Pray for the Kingdom of God to come to Oman with dreams and visions. (The Bible, Acts 2:17)

KAZAKHSTAN, CENTRAL ASIA

In December 2011, security forces killed dozens and wounded hundreds of others in an attempt to break up a demonstration by striking oil workers. This violence comes after “signs of rising instability and Islamic extremism.” Pray for the government of Kazakhstan to be free from corruption and to take a strong stand against terrorism. Pray for Christians in this nation to be strong and courageous. Ask the Lord to empower them to share their faith, plant churches, and disciple new believers. Pray for the Gospel to be proclaimed throughout Kazakhstan. Ask the Lord for a great harvest of souls in this nation. (The Bible, Psalm 10:15)

DAY TWENTY-SIX

TUNISIA, NORTH AFRICA

The new coalition Cabinet in Tunisia will be dominated by a “moderate Islamic party” (Ennahda). According to Prime Minister Hamadi Jebali, the 41-member government “will focus on boosting the economy and fighting corruption.” Pray for the Lord to guide this nation and its leaders. Pray for the salvation of Prime Minister Jebali and other members of the Ennahda party. Pray for the Muslims of Tunisia to have the opportunity to hear the Gospel and put their faith in Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. Petition the Lord for multitudes of men, women, and children to accept Christ. (The Bible, Colossians 1:13)

CAMBODIA, SOUTHEAST ASIA

According to VOA, “Tens of thousands of Cambodians find work in Thailand each year, while many are trafficked into the sex trade, illegal fishing, or construction jobs that pay no salary.” An estimated 250,000 Cambodians are currently working illegally in Thailand. Pray for an immediate end to the trafficking of Cambodians. Pray especially for women and girls to be protected from the lies and schemes of traffickers. Petition the Lord for the freedom of victims. Pray for Christian organizations to provide help to those in poverty. Ask the Lord to revive His Church in Cambodia. Pray for multitudes of people to put their faith in Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. (The Bible, Psalm 80:18)

DAY TWENTY-SEVEN

TURKEY, SE EUROPE & SW ASIA

In 2011, the government of Turkey began a new strategy of using the military to combat terrorism. Since this crackdown, “many PKK terrorists have willingly surrendered” and hundreds more have been killed. Pray for this strategy to be effective in bringing an end to terrorist groups operating in Turkey. Pray for the salvation of leaders in the PKK. Ask the Lord to pour out His Holy Spirit on this Islamic nation. Pray for Muslims to hear and respond to the Gospel. Ask the Lord for a great harvest of souls in Turkey. (The Bible, Psalm 37:10)

NORTH KOREA, EAST ASIA

Kim Jong-un took control of North Korean after the death of his father, Kim Jong-il in December 2011. Despite Jong-un’s reputation for ruthlessness, President Lee-Myung-bak of South Korea sees this transition in power as a “window of opportunity” to improve relations with North Korea. Pray for this to be true. Ask the Lord to use this season of change to bring about a dramatic spiritual awakening in North Korea. Pray for the salvation of Supreme Leader Kim Jong-un, his family, and his administration. Ask the Lord to shatter the oppressive spiritual darkness in North Korea and shine forth the Light of Christ. Pray for the Gospel to be preached throughout this nation and for multitudes of men, women, and children to put their faith in Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. (The Bible, II Corinthians 4:4)

DAY TWENTY-EIGHT

SOMALIA, EAST AFRICA

Although terrorist group, al-Shabaab, seems to be losing power and influence in Somalia, the recent famine displaced thousands. Rape in refugee camps is common and members of al-Shabaab reportedly raid these camps to steal women for use as short-term sex slaves. Pray for an end to these horrific acts. Pray for the salvation of leaders and members of al-Shabaab. Ask the Lord to protect women and girls – especially in the refugee camps – and to minister healing to those who have been assaulted. Pray for the Lord to restore order in Somalia. Ask Him to raise up leaders who will govern the people with integrity and in the fear of the Lord. Pray for Muslims in Somalia to hear and respond to the Gospel, putting their faith in Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. (The Bible, Psalm 17:13)

PAKISTAN, SOUTH ASIA

BBC News considers Pakistan a “potential flashpoint” for global terror in 2012. The news agency notes that there is a simmering insurgency, a weak civilian government, and a powerful military. “Al-Qaeda’s activities there are [not likely] to stop soon.” Pray for this troubled nation. Pray for the salvation of government officials as well as military leaders and terrorists. Pray for the Gospel to be proclaimed throughout Pakistan. Ask the Lord to protect and encourage Christians. Pray for them to be strong and courageous, sharing their faith and loving their enemies. Petition the Lord for a great harvest of souls in this nation. (The Bible, Psalm 21:11,12)

DAY TWENTY-NINE

NIGERIA, WEST AFRICA

A bomb blast set off by terrorist group, Boko Haram, killed 39 people on the steps of a Catholic church following Christmas mass in December 2011. On the same day, Boko Haram launched an attack in the city of Jos and in the northeast. “The Christmas Day violence,” reports the Associated Press, “shows the threat of the widening insurrection posed by Boko Haram against Nigeria’s weak central government. Pray for Boko Haram to be defeated. Pray for the salvation of members of this radical Muslim group. Ask the Lord to restore peace in Nigeria. Pray for Him to protect Christians and help them to pray for their enemies and demonstrate His love to them. Pray for their hope to be in the Lord. (The Bible, Psalm 37:34)

MALDIVES, SOUTH ASIA

The island nation of Maldives is ranked at number 6 on the Open Doors World Watch List 2012 of the worst persecutors of Christians. According to Open Doors, Christians in the Maldives have almost no freedom to worship openly. Pray for the Gospel to reach the Muslims living in the Maldives. Pray for the salvation of President Mohamed Nasheed. Ask the Lord to strengthen and encourage Maldivian Christians. Pray for them to be bold in sharing their faith. Petition the Lord for a great harvest of souls in the Maldives. (The Bible, Ephesians 6:19)

JORDAN, MIDDLE EAST

After protests swept across the Arab world in the spring of 2011, Jordan responded by introducing reforms. This included taking steps to become a constitutional monarchy, reports Eurasia Review. Pray for the Lord to accomplish His plans and purposes in this nation. Ask Him to raise up leaders who will rule with humility and in the fear of the Lord. Pray for every people group in Jordan to have the opportunity to hear and respond to the Gospel. Ask the Lord to bring His Kingdom to this nation with great power. (The Bible, Proverbs 9:10)

SENEGAL, WEST AFRICA

Separatist rebels attacked a police brigade in January 2012 in the Casamance region of Senegal. Ten people were killed in clashes between separatists and security forces in November 2011 and another 13 died in December. The ongoing battle for independence in this area is West Africa’s longest running conflict. Pray for the Lord to establish His peace in Senegal. Pray for the salvation of leaders and rebels. Ask Him to send workers to this harvest field. Pray for the Gospel to be proclaimed throughout Senegal. Petition the Lord to bring unity among Christians and give them His heart to pray for their nation. Invite the Kingdom of God to come to Senegal as it is in heaven. (The Bible, Matthew 9:37,38)

DAY THIRTY

ERITREA, EAST AFRICA

In November 2011, Eritrea was accused of flying two planeloads of weapons to terrorist group, al-Shabaab. The government has also been accused of funding al-Shabaab. In December 2011, the United Nations toughened sanctions against Eritrea because of its involvement in plotting terrorist attacks. Pray for leaders in Eritrea to take a stand against terrorism. Pray for the funding and support provided to al-Shabaab by the Eritrean government to be cut off. Pray for an end to al-Shabaab. Pray for the salvation of Eritrean officials, as well as terrorists. Pray for the Lord to move powerfully in the Horn of Africa, pouring out His Holy Spirit and drawing Muslims into relationship with Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. (The Bible, John 6:44)

TIBET, SOUTH ASIA

Although 12 Tibetans set themselves on fire in 2011 to protest Chinese oppression of their nation, the government of China continues to refuse to consider Tibet as an independent nation. “Self-immolations by ethnic Tibetans in China will never succeed in forcing any policy changes,” a Chinese official said. Pray for the people of Tibet to find freedom – politically, but most importantly, spiritually. Ask the Lord to liberate them from the bondage of Buddhism and lead them into the freedom of Christ. Pray for the Gospel to be proclaimed throughout Tibet. Ask the Lord to tear down strongholds of false religion. Pray for multitudes of men, women, and children to put their faith in Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. (The Bible, II Corinthians 10:4)

SYRIA, MIDDLE EAST

Many Alawites (a Muslim minority in Syria) are still supporting President Bashar Assad. They believe that if he is driven from office they will suffer discrimination. Pray for an end to the killing of innocent civilians that is taking place in Syria. Pray for the salvation of President Assad. Ask the Lord to comfort those who have lost loved ones in the violence. Pray for Him to guide this nation forward, raising up leaders who will govern with integrity and in the fear of the Lord. Pray for all Syrians to hear and respond to the Good News of Jesus Christ. Invite the Kingdom of God to come to this nation. (The Bible, II Corinthians 3,4)

MONGOLIA, NORTH ASIA

The Church in Mongolia has grown at an incredible rate. According to “Operation World,” there were only four known Christians in this nation in 1989. Today there are tens of thousands. Every Home for Christ describes this as “an unstoppable wave of church growth.” Give thanks to the Lord for this. Pray for this growth to continue. Ask the Lord to continue pouring out His Holy Spirit on Mongolia. Pray for an even greater harvest of souls in this nation. Petition the Lord to enable Christians to grow strong in the Word, prayer, and fellowship. Pray for everyone in Mongolia to have the opportunity to hear and respond the Gospel. (The Bible, Hebrews 4:12)

DAY THIRTY-ONE

EAST TIMOR, SOUTHEAST ASIA

East Timor is ranked as “serious” on the Global Hunger Index. “Malnutrition is one of the greatest problems,” notes the West Australian, “affecting over half the child population.” Ask the Lord to provide relief through Christian humanitarian agencies. Pray for the people of this mostly-Christian nation to cry out to Him for relief. Petition the Lord to bring revival to the Church of East Timor. Pray for Christians to grow strong in the Lord and the power of His might. Pray for the Kingdom of God to come to East Timor. (The Bible, Matthew 6:10)

THE GAMBIA, WEST AFRICA

Yahya Jammeh, president of the Gambia for the past 17 years, was re-elected for another five-year term in November 2011. Opposition parties called the election “bogus” and say the results have left many in the Gambia hopeless. “Poverty is on the increase since Yahya Jammeh took over the country,” notes one news source. More than half of the population (one survey found 74%) now lives below the poverty line. Pray for the salvation of President Jammeh. Ask the Lord to raise up leaders who will govern with integrity and in the fear of the Lord. Pray for Him to bring relief to those who are struggling under the burden of poverty. Pray for the Gospel to be proclaimed throughout this nation. Ask the Lord for a great harvest of souls in the Gambia. (The Bible, Proverbs 1:7)

GAZA STRIP, MIDDLE EAST

Poverty is rampant in the Gaza Strip. One study found that over 75% of the population lives below the poverty line. Some believe the situation will only get worse as the events of the Arab spring draw attention to other issues in the region. Pray for the Lord to provide for the people of the Gaza Strip through Christian humanitarian organizations. Pray for Christians in this region to function in unity and seek the Lord for relief. Ask the Lord to send more workers to this harvest field. Pray for the Gospel to be made known throughout the Gaza Strip. Pray for the salvation of leaders of Hamas. Invite the Kingdom of God to come with great power and glory. (The Bible, I Corinthians 12:12)

WEST BANK, MIDDLE EAST

A mosque in the West Bank was burned and defaced with graffiti in December 2011. This was just one in a series of attacks on mosques in the West Bank. Jewish extremists are suspected. Pray for peace in the West Bank. Ask the Lord to draw Palestinians and Jews into relationship with Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. Pray for Him to pour out His Holy Spirit on this region. Ask the Lord for a great harvest of souls in the West Bank. (The Bible, Isaiah 9:6)
